A mother and her three children were rescued on Mount Lemmon Monday after the group ran out of water, and suffered minor injuries.

The group began hiking the Green Mountain Loop at about 1 p.m., and shortly before 4:30 p.m., the Southern Arizona Rescue Association responded to the mountain for a rescue, said Chief Deputy Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The rescuers learned that during the hike, one of the children suffered a possible ankle injury, another had bleeding blisters and the group was out of water, said Nanos in a news release.

The 36-year-old woman called 911 and requested assistance. Her children were ages 15, 14, and 12, Nanos said.

A sheriff's department helicopter crew spotted the group in the Brush Corral Trail, and lowered a deputy to hoist the group out. The three youths were hoisted to the helicopter and flown to a nearby landing zone.

They were medically evaluated and then taken home by their father, Nanos said.

The woman told personnel she could hike out, and as she and a rescue crew began the return hike, the helicopter was called back after the woman advised the crew of a medical condition, said Nanos.

She then was hoisted to the helicopter and also flown to the landing zone. She refused medical treatment, and was driven home by her husband, Nanos said.
